KlapYaHandz goes Afrobeats with Izame Siva & 4mara’s Eyo Jayo
The title translates to a double dose of joy in English
Lagos, Nigeria and Phnom Penh, Cambodia are about as different as cities come, but that doesn’t matter for KlapYaHandz’s artists Izame Siva and 4mara. Music is a connecting factor as they recently released a collaborative album called Eyo Jayo.
4mara has a tight musical pedigree from New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. He made his return to Cambodia and put out the 10-track album My Way in August. Now, he’s back and he’s got Siva, one of KlapYaHandz’s main artists to collab with. The sound is Afrobeats with Khmer and English rhymes over the top.
Eyo Jayo is the album title and also the lead single’s title. Eyo is a festival that happens in Yorubaland, Nigeria that is a celebration of joy. Jayo in Khmer is an exclamation of happiness, so combined it’s a double dose of delight. In an interview, Siva said that he thinks this is the start of a new movement because Asians are starting to ”embrace Afrobeats culture as they embraced Hip Hop culture.”
