The simple brilliance of Yuki Chiba’s ‘Team Tomodachi’ is playing on one of the best parts of Hip Hop - going out to a club or a concert and screaming the lyrics of a song as loud as you can with friends and strangers. In 2024, a lot of Asian countries remixed ‘Team Tomodachi,’ and now it’s Indonesia’s turn to add a little bit of sambal to that mix with 11 MCs including RAMENGVRL, YB, Basboi, A. Nayaka, Laze, Young Lex, MatterMos, Davidbeatt, EEVNXX, Saykoji, and Kenz.

Going Noodles, RAMENGVRL’s creative house, pushes the boundaries of Indonesian Hip Hop by bringing together a team of friends in front of a mini-market to emphasize the grittiness of Indonesian street culture. Each MC, from old school to new, represents their own style of rapping and shows the diversity in the scene.

Like the endless variants of nasi goreng, it’s awe-inspiring to see a cultural movement that brings so many different flavors of Hip Hop on one track to create something uniquely Indonesian and globally appealing.
