On May 23, the first posthumous release from revered Japanese rapper and producer JJJ arrived in the form of ‘dali.’ The track is a stirring, slow burner that carries the weight of his career.

The single follows JJJ’s sudden passing on April 13 at the age of 35, marking a watershed moment for everyone who has followed his evolution into one of Japan’s most celebrated rappers.

Originally unveiled as the opening track to JJJ’s largest solo concert - held at the Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in Tokyo on November 30, 2024, ‘dali’ was more than just a set-starter. It was a statement. Produced and mixed by JJJ himself, and mastered by Colin Leonard at SING Mastering, the song embodies all the hallmarks of his signature sound, characterized by meticulousness, immersion, and emotional layering with quiet intensity.

The cover art, a striking portrait shot by longtime friend Masanobu Ando, adds an extra layer of intimacy.

Though his “the light tour” was ultimately canceled following his passing, reimagined performances in Tokyo and Osaka are set to take place later this year—reminders of the legacy he leaves behind.
