Hong Kong steals the show in Pharrell & Swae Lee’s ‘Airplane Tickets’ video
The Pearl of the Orient is shining bright
At Clockenflap, Swae Lee played a snippet of ‘Airplane Tickets,’ his new Afrobeats-tinged single with Pharrell and Rauw Alejandro. He said it was the first time it was played anywhere outside of the Louis Vuitton show, and the people in the crowd could leak it if they wanted as it was coming out the next week. He also mentioned the video was filmed in Hong Kong.
‘Airplane Tickets’ has arrived, and it’s definitely an ode to the charm and vibrancy of Hong Kong. Unlike MC Jin’s just-released ‘Nobody,’ which is dedicated to the smaller people on the streets, ‘Airplane Tickets’ goes the opposite route. The video is shot from fancy hotel rooms overlooking the harbor, rooftops in the thick of it all, ordinary neighborhoods, and of course, the LV show.
With two Clockenflaps and its afterparties, and now being featured in two Hip Hop videos in two weeks, the Pearl of the Orient is shining bright in 2023. There were a few years there when Hong Kong had the feeling of breaking down, but sometimes things have to fall apart to be put back together again.
