For 25 years, the Gumball 3000 has been taking fast cars and drivers on six-day star-studded affairs. With more than 100 supercars and just as many superstars, the Gumball 3000 arrives in Saigon on the 14 and 15 of September, heads north to Phnom Phen, Angkor Wat, and Bangkok, then makes its way down south through Krabi and Kuala Lumpur, and ends at the Singapore Grand Prix on September 22.
Started by Maxamillion Cooper in 1999 with a vision of combining pop culture, fashion, music, and luxury vehicles, the Gumball 3000 is not a race, it’s a rally. At each stop, the drivers have a VIP party and exclusive experiences in that region. In 1999, Gumball 3000 was launched so that Maxamillion and his friends could drive 3,000 miles through Europe. In the 25 years since, the rally has attracted big names Tony Hawk, the crew of the show Jackass, Idris Elba, Cypress Hill, Eve, deadmau5, Major Lazer, French Montana, and more. There have been movies, documentaries, apparel, and even video games made about the Gumball 3000.
This year is not the first year Gumball 3000 has hit Asia. In 2008, the finish line was the Beijing Olympics with a quick stop in North Korea for the Mass Games. This year, Gumball 3000 promises celebrities, royalty, influencers, musicians, sports stars, and even YouTubers.
On September 14 at the starting line, there is a free day of entertainment for fans in Saigon. The rally starts on September 15 when a huge global celebrity waves the start flag. This year the flag waver is Binz, one of Vietnam’s biggest rappers.
No matter what happens in the rally, it is a spectacle when the cars go flying by.
