Gloc-9 wins MYX Magna Award in a surprise
The OG Filipino rapper says you should always look for what you love
For more than 25 years, Filipino rapper Gloc-9 has been doing it all. He was rapping when no one thought that rapping was cool. He has made songs that tackle social injustice, the poverty in his homeland, and patriotism. And according to singer and actress Regina Velasquez, Gloc-9 has become a “voice of the voiceless.”
Gloc-9 went to the MYX Music Awards 2024 thinking that he was going to be a presenter of the MYX Magna Award, but Regina and others surprised him and gave him the award instead. After a standing ovation, Gloc-9 went up on the stage to say, “Look for what you love. Protect it. Fight for and love it for a long time, and it will love you back.”
After his impassioned speech, artists Ice Seguerra, Arthur Nery, Sassa Dagdag, and rappers Loonie, Smugglaz, Flow G, and Hero paid tribute to the rapper by performing his songs ‘Upuan,’ ‘Sirena,’ ‘Sumayaw Ka,’ and ‘Lando.’ In the end, a few superstars gave a video tribute to Gloc-9, and then he posted on social media, “When you watch those you admire sing your creations, that is the true reward!
Congratulations to Gloc-9 for being a lifelong inspiration in Hip Hop for everyone.
