In the Mongolian hip-hop scene, there’s GINJIN and then there’s everyone else. With his second album El Yama finishing as the most-streamed album of the year, the verdict is simple: “Ye Ye Ye Ye Ye Ye!”
With a nod to Burna Boy and an interpolation of his 2018 breakout anthem ‘Ye’—the track that helped push Afrobeats into the global mainstream, GINJIN’s latest single, ‘Toxic 247’ featuring Uka, plays like a stylish homage. This isn’t his first time flirting with the sound. He tapped into Afrobeats on 2023’s ‘Baba,’ and Mongolian flows over vibey drums just make sense. This time, Uka adds a new layer to the formula, sliding in with whispered hook vocals that bring much-needed female energy to the track’s moody tension.
Lyrically, GINJIN opens by dedicating the song to an unnamed woman before unpacking the emotional traps of a toxic relationship. The video mirrors that push-and-pull energy: a balaclava-clad GINJIN wrestles with whether to ride it out forever or grab his keys and get the hell out of town. By the final verse, he’s in full flex mode—reminding everyone why whenever GINJIN shows up, the crowd still chants, “Ye Ye Ye Ye Ye Ye.”
