In case you have been living under a damp fallen tree branch, India has been rocked by the Cockroach Revolution. Many rappers have come by the protests for support, and Emiway Bantai dropped ‘BOLRA HAI SADAK,’ which translates to ‘The Street is Speaking’ in support of the student protestors.

It all started in May when Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant made the offhand comment that compared activist and unemployed youth to cockroaches and parasites. Instead of taking offense, Gen-Z students have reclaimed the image of a cockroach as a symbol of survival, resistance, and grit. Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old political communications strategist, was living in the US, but quickly flew back to India to launch the satirical Cockroach Janta Party [CJP], which now has more followers than all the political parties in India.

What started as a meme has now become one of the most important social movements for Indian youth. They protested the retaking of the NEET medical entrance examination, which affected two million students and forced the high-profile resignation of India's Education Minister.

Emiway has always been about the streets, and ‘BOLRA HAI SADAK’ solidifies his position with the students. He released the song as the high point of the protests that were happening and asked many questions of the government like who is responsible and why can’t ordinary people question those in power.

The CJP says that at this moment they are not a political party, but with the youth overwhelmingly on their side, they would have a very strong voice in the future of Indian politics.
