Legendary rapper DMX passed away last week due to a heart attack. Many in the Hip Hop world have sent out heartfelt messages about what DMX meant to them. X’s death leaves a gaping hole in the Hip Hop industry, but he had reportedly completed an album prior to his death and was planning to release it this summer.

The project was confirmed by his friend and collaborator Darrin “Dee” Dean. In an interview with Fox 5 New York, Dean mentioned that he and X were working on a new album in Nashville for four months last year. “It’s sad that he’s not gonna be here, but the music...this album right here is special.

Dean continued, “Like you probably never heard no music like you heard on this one that we did right now. This is probably one of his great albums. One of the best. It’s a classic for sure.” The album is said to feature many big names such as Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys and Usher, as well as members of the Griselda crew including Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine, and Westside Gunn.

On an extra sad note, Pop Smoke is also supposed to be on the album, which would mean that there is a track with two artists who are both deceased.
