Tokyo becomes the epicenter of the DJ world this weekend with the DMC World Championships 40th anniversary
A lifetime achievement award will go to DJ Honda
Forty years is a long time for anything. In the DJ world, the DMCs have been around for four decades and are the preeminent competitive DJ event. This weekend in Tokyo, a host of the best DJs from around the globe will be congregating at the DMC World Championships 40th anniversary.
On Saturday, October 11 at O-East, the Classic finals, the Supremacy finals, and the Scratch finals will be held. There will be Hall of Fame awards, as well as a lifetime achievement award given to Japan’s own DJ Honda. Performers will include Skratch Bastid, Invisbl Scratch Piklz, Kireek, Kentaro, Fly, JFB, Rena, and DJ Ta-shi. That schedule is packed so tight, that most of these world-class DJs only have 15-minute sets.
While that is a wild card, Sunday’s show at Harlem rivals it as 10 DJs compete for the DMC Open title. Besides the title hunt, DJ Craze, Nasthug, and DJ Koco will be doing showcases that show their incredible skills.
