In Taiwan, if a grandmother sees someone flashy, she may point to their shiny jewelry or fancy clothes and say they are ‘Pali Pali,’ the name of Barry Chen’s latest single with 謝帝 from Chengdu and up-and-comer, hanji. This is a cross-cultural collab of the older and younger generation in Chinese Hip Hop.

Barry Chen has taken the old Taiwanese saying, ‘Pali Pali,’ and turned it on it’s head by saying that he and his crew are dope boy fresh. With a blend of spicy Sichuan rapping from 謝帝 and new generational bi-lingual lyrics from 謝帝, there will be a lot of people yelling ‘Pali Pali’ in the dog days of summer this year.

In the video, Barry Chen sports a fresh Caesar cut for the modern era. He, hanji, and 謝帝 謝帝 all look good in the middle of a fireworks fight with some dark red hues.

If you see someone flexing with their ride or their chains this summer, point at them and say ‘Pali Pali,’ and Barry Chen will be proud.
