Many big brands make a T-shirt or a shoe to celebrate Lunar New Year and try to grab some of that Chinese renminbi, but Adidas has done something incredible this year with the Chinese Tang Suit jacket. They remixed their classic Adidas Original jacket by adding four toggle closures, knot buttons, and a stand-up collar. They added Tang-era satin and a Greater China-only release, and the jacket is the only thing people can talk about on the streets this winter.

The Adidas Tang Suit jacket showcases xinzhongshi, or a new Chinese style. Instead of always looking West for inspiration, xinzhongshi is contemporary design with traditional Chinese aesthetics. While the term isn’t new [check the recent interest in the horse face skirt or hanfu style], it’s rare that a major brand like Adidas gets it so right.

While it’s not even Christmas yet, many people in Asia will be hoping Santa delivers a Tang Suit jacket they can wear for Lunar New Year and beyond. Since it’s only available in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, be careful of resellers pushing up those prices.
