5lack is a Japanese MC that’s been deep in the game for decades. When MCs like this continue to release music after all those years, there’ll always be a lingering thought on whether they’re past their prime. However, there’s no doubt that 5lack is living his best life because he has been consistently releasing albums and EPs while shining light on upcoming acts on his projects. He does exactly the same on his newest six-track EP entitled report, which was released on April 3.
One of its standout tracks on it is ‘5xL’, which features LEX. On an Instagram post announcing the EP, 5lack calls LEX a “young prodigy.” One listen and you’d know exactly why. ‘5xL’ takes listeners back to the 1990s and early 2000s. The minimalist beat takes up space while 5lack and LEX go back to back with their rhymes and flows.
The chemistry between the two MCs on this track makes it seem as if they’ve been doing this together for years, but this is the first time they’ve ever collabed. This is the past, present, and future of Japanese Hip Hop all in one track.
