Beyoncé & Kendrick Lamar lead winners at 2023 Grammys
Queen Bey is now the most decorated artist in Grammy history with 32 awards
The 2023 Grammys have come and gone, and while history was made, there’s still a lingering bad taste in many people’s mouths. Beyoncé was the star of the evening as she won four awards in the Electronic/Dance and R&B categories becoming the all-time Grammy leader with 32 gramophone statues. Kendrick Lamar came in a close second as he won three Grammys in the Hip Hop categories. Lizzo won Record of the Year for ‘About Damn Time,’ Harry Styles’ Harry’s House won for Album of the Year and Bonnie Raitt [?!?!!?] won for Song of the Year for ‘Just Like That.’
In what was supposed to be Hip Hop’s year, since there was a 13-minute tribute to 50 years of Hip Hop with 27 MCs past, present, and future, the Grammys once again proved they are out of touch with the pulse of music culture by closing Beyoncé and Kendrick out of their big awards. For neither of these two generational artists to win Album of the Year over their careers is highway robbery. Also, Taylor Swift has won album of the year three times.
With that said, the Grammys are trying to move on from their old, boring ways. They had Bad Bunny open the show and Jay-Z close it with one of the best verses he’s ever written on DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did.’
While the Grammys might not quite be there yet, everyone who listens to music knows that this past year belonged to Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar.
