According to Korean authorities, ‘Gangnam Style’ superstar Psy has been using other people to pick up his prescription drugs. His manager and other staff have been picking up Xanax and Stillnox on his behalf for the past three years.
While these crimes aren’t as vicious as murder or assault, the Korean authorities take them very seriously because both of these drugs are highly addictive and require mandatory in-person check-ins with doctors. Most places around the world, picking up a prescription for a family member is nothing but an errand, but in Korea, the Medical Services Act only permits immediate family or caregivers to pick up prescriptions for their dependents.
The government received the tip and then seized Psy’s medical records as part of the investigation. Even though the doctor has been charged, he’s denied any wrongdoing and said that he has been conducting remote check-ins with Psy. In a statement, Psy’s team said, “His use of sleeping medication has been under medical supervision and within the prescribed dosage. There was no proxy prescribing, but there were instances in which a third party picked up the sleeping medication on his behalf.”
