It’s fitting that the first image shown in ASEN’s latest video, ‘DONGBU?’ is I ❤️ 咸丰 on the side of a building. As a member of one of China’s biggest Rap groups, Digi Ghetto, ASEN has seen the big-town madness by being based out of Chengdu. But he also can’t forget his roots in Xianfeng in Hubei Province, China.

“Small town kids are awesome!” ASEN repeats three times in a row in the beginning of ‘DONGBU?’ as he lists all the reasons why. They are wilder than you. They are the boss. They come from the bottom of society. ASEN remembers when he had nothing and he’s proud of where he’s at now.

In the video for ‘DONGBU?,’ he’s got a crew of youngins in white wifebeaters starting the day off by breaking on a roof. Soon, the kids are getting older as ASEN gets his haircut and starts playing mahjong. The kids turn into wheelie-riding teens with white tees as ASEN raps about making it from Xianfeng to Manhattan. Eventually, ASEN is dancing with the tribal women and making his mama proud.

As a small town kid, ASEN climbed mountains everyday. In ‘DONGBU?’ he shows why he had to climb a bit higher to get to where he’s at.
