Young Thug, a two-time Billboard album chart-topping rapper, was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia on May 10. He is being charged with suspicion of gang involvement and other crimes. Gunna, his number one protegee and also a two-time Billboard album chart-topper, was also arrested, along with 26 other associates of Thugger’s YSL [Young Stoner Life] crew.

Various members of YSL are charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery, drug dealing, witness intimidation, as well as other crimes. Brian Steel, Young Thug’s lawyer, vehemently denied all charges and said Thugger had, “committed no crime whatsoever and we will fight to my last drop of blood to clear him.”

All 28 men are charged with Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Act [RICO], which is a very big problem for Young Thug, Gunna, and the rest. This means that federal agents have been tapping their phones, watching their social media closely, and infiltrating the gang. Getting convictions on RICO acts is easy because the charges are based on patterns instead of criminal acts. Violators of the RICO Act can be fined up to US$25,000 and get a sentence of 20 years in jail. The RICO act has been used to take down the mafia, Hells Angels, and those who conspired with Bernie Madoff, who stole US$64 billion.
