Spaceport Carnival shows how April Fool’s Day can go wrong…really wrong

Pranks have to be original & committed to

Spaceport Carnival [太空港] in Taiwan thought it would be hilarious if they pulled an April Fool’s Day prank on their audience. The festival, which is happening at the Taoyuan Sunlight Arena on May 24 and 25, probably saw a HipHopPlaya Festival post that showed Kanye and Ty Dolla Sign announced to perform for their festival in Korea.

Copying someone else's April Fool’s joke is always looked down upon, but Spaceport didn’t do one thing that the HipHopPlaya Festival did. If people scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post, there’s an #aprilfoolsday hashtag, which shows that they were doing this in jest.

Unfortunately for Spaceport Carnival, the organizers jacked the same idea minus the hashtag and posted it on their website at 6 PM on April 1. By 9 PM, tons of tickets were being booked in Taiwan and the organizers had to pull the post. A day later, they announced that this was all a joke and that if people wanted their money back, they could get it by jumping through a lot of hoops. They also turned off the commentating on their posts because plenty of folks would have loved to express their contempt for this poorly executed April Fool’s Day joke.
