‘Silent Flute’ is the latest JabbaWockeeZ masterstroke

Hip Hop, art & commerce go very well together

The dance crew JabbaWockeeZ has been around for nearly 20 years, getting their start in 2003 in San Diego. They have changed the game in many ways over the years, so it’s only right that they come up with an innovative way to sell their gear.

In ‘Silent Flute,’ which was released in November, two dancers enter a Zen-like compound to Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra’s ‘The Noose,’ a flute-heavy track that would be perfect as a soundtrack for a few minutes of meditation. Soon a master meets his student for a tea ceremony and then they are dancing and battling like every master and their student should be. The thing about the video is that it’s relaxing in an otherworldly way. Both dancers are in sync with each other and it’s something that you don’t see all the time. There’s no doubt that the JabbaWockeeZ are great at creating pieces of art like this with a Hip Hop twist.

But that’s not the only twist. Fans of the JabbaWockeeZ can go to their website and purchase the camo kimonos that both dancers wear as well as facemasks and lanyards. It’s a stroke of marketing genius under the cloak of art and Hip Hop.

Known for winning America’s Best Dance Crew in 2008, the JabbaWockeeZ have capitalized off their fame by doing the NBA All-Star Game with Shaq, doing world tours, starting their own record label, and being in tons of ads for brands as big as Coca-Cola. Since 2010, the JabbaWockeeZ have been doing residencies in Las Vegas at various casinos and theaters. A trip to Vegas is not complete for Hip Hop fans unless they see one of the most innovative dance crews of all time, the JabbaWockeeZ, and get some of their gear to remember the trip by.
