LiFTED first reported on the case of Malaysian rapper Namewee being charged with two drug crimes on November 3. Besides the drug charges, there was suspicion around a sudden death that happened at the hotel room Namewee was in when he called an ambulance for Iris Hsieh, a Taiwanese influencer nicknamed the Nurse Goddess.

Within 30 minutes of publishing the first article, the police in Malaysia said they were reclassifying Iris’ accidental death as a murder and looking for Namewee. Soon, articles speculated that he had fled. On the morning of November 5, Namewee posted a video of himself in front of the police station where he said he was turning himself in.

He wrote on his social media, “Just arrived from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur. I had previously arranged with the police to report myself. I have now arrived at the police station and will fully assist in the investigation, to give the public and the victim's family an explanation. I won't escape. I’ve voluntarily reported myself for all seven previous arrest warrants, never once fled."

Once his lawyers came out of the police station, they said he will be remanded for six days while the police wait on the post-mortem and toxicology results. Namewee was the last person to be with the deceased and is considered crucial to the investigation.
