Three years ago, a picture of Filipino rapper EZ MILL shook the internet. He’s in the foreground with his fingers twisted up, and in the background are the dynamic duo of Eminem and Dr. Dre. EZ MIL was officially signed to Shady Records/Aftermath and things looked promising. Everyone in Hip Hop knows that Dr. Dre doesn’t work on a clock or a calendar, but even by his standards, EZ MIL’s output has only trickled out since then.

Hopefully, that drip will turn into a river as EZ MIL just released ‘2200,’ an ode to his hometown of Olongapo City, Philippines. While he’s repping the 2200, EZ MIL also has an eye to the future of going global with footage of him opening a Black Eyed Peas concert, skate demos and hangs with Awich in Japan, and kicking it with the Seventh Letter graffiti crew.

With a Pop Smoke-like beat and vocal inflection, EZ MIL goes hard in two [!!] videos for ‘2200,’ the official video, and the director’s cut. In the official, EZ has his cornrows twisted up tight and a crew rolling deep behind him. The director’s cut is a little more wild and loose as he’s spraying walls, landing kickflips, getting crunk with the Queen of Japanese Hip Hop, and hanging out the window of a jeepney. Both are worth a watch to understand the battle between staying local and going global.
