A year and a half ago, DJ Ono and DJAYBUDDAH worked tirelessly to bring the dopest Hip Hop festival to Asia, Rolling Loud. This weekend, it’s back and bigger than ever with some crazy headliners like A$AP Rocky and Lil Wayne all the way down to Asia’s biggest stars like Jay Park, YOUNGOHM, and Thaitanium.
Here are a few tips LiFTED learned last year about what to do and what not to do at Rolling Loud.
Tip #1
Go EARLY
You beat the traffic. You get a feel of the venue before it’s rammed with people. You get to see some amazing opening acts up close because a ton of fans aren’t staked out at the front of the stages. Early is best.
Tip #2
Look at the music schedule and plan accordingly
There are only so many musical acts you and your friends can see in one day. Sometimes your favs may be playing on competing stages even. On Day 2, are you going to watch Wiz Khalifa on the Loud Stage or Denzel Curry on the Amazing Thailand Stage around 10pm? Figure it out before you get there, or you might not see either.
Tip #3
Find a meeting spot
With 50,000 people per day, sometimes friends go on sidequests. Other times they get lost with no charge left in their phone. Find a spot [a lot of times near food is best] where you know that if you haven’t seen each other in 30 minutes you will go there to find each other.
Tip 4
Take care of your friends [and even strangers]
Real friends don’t get too f*cked up at festivals, but hey…we’ve all been there. If your friends get too messed up, get them some shade, some water, and let them get out of it so you don’t have to carry them home. Also, if random strangers are having trouble, help them out. We’ve. All. Been. There.
Tip 5
Take motorcycle taxis home
Your Bolt or Grab aint coming, bro. Put away your coolness and snuggle up on the back of that bike and get ready for the ride of your life. Yes, it’s overpriced after the show, but what is an extra few bucks for not waiting hours, right?
DAY 1 MUSIC
Even though Tyla disappeared, it’s really gonna be hard to be a night with A$AP, Tyga, Quavo, and Akon. But don’t forget to go early and check out the HypeTrain and Def Jam SEA crews, as well as YOUNGOHM, the street king of Thailand.
DAY 2 MUSIC
Lil Wayne is one of the GOATs and when you have a chance to see a GOAT you must see a GOAT. Period. Is he an amazing live performer? He’s got mixed reviews but we’ll know why or why he wasn’t picked for the Super Bowl by midnight on Saturday. At 5.55pm, Hanumankind will be rocking off the success of his ‘Big Dawgs’ track, so that should be amazing. This month’s coverstar Twopee will be at the Amazing Thailand Stage with his Southside crew at 6.10pm as well.
DAY 3 MUSIC
At Camp Flog Gnaw last weekend, Playboi Carti brought out The Weeknd for their hit ‘Timeless.’ Will he do it again this weekend in Thailand? Fingers crossed. But for sure, when Carti drops ‘FE!N’ Rolling Loud will bounce like it’s never bounced before, so save some energy for that. Gunna in the slot before Carti has ‘fukumean,’ one of the biggest songs of the 2020’s so that’s going to be riot-inducing as well.
Be kind and patient. Take care of yourself and others this weekend. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
