Yayoi Daimon brings the energy for her On the Block performance

The new California transplant brings her whole crew for ‘Back It Up’

There’s an epidemic running wild online–the hanging-mic performance video. It was fresh the first dozen times, but after your YouTube feed gets flooded with another hundred identical clips, the novelty wears off fast.

Naturally, Yayoi Daimon wasn’t about to follow the formula so she flipped it. Now based in California, the Japanese firestarter pulled up to On the Block with a full squad for ‘Back It Up,’ her explosive duet with Dominican rapper Jenn Morel, produced by Walshy Fire of Major Lazer and XLII.

Jenn Morel and the producers don’t appear in the clip, but Yayoi packs enough dynamite to light up the whole block. She rolls deep with half a dozen dancers, a lowrider parked in front of a mural, and a handful of homies and kids giving the shoot real neighborhood energy. The fits are tight, the props are peak LA, and Yayoi absolutely murders the hanging mic.
