‘Symmetry’ shows Ed Sheeran & Karan Aujla’s balance
South Asian collaborations take center stage on Sheeran’s latest EP
Fresh off a month-long stay in India, Ed Sheeran has released his Play [The Remixes] EP, a cross-continental project connecting global Pop with South Asia’s biggest voices. The EP features four reimagined tracks, including Karan Aujla on ‘Symmetry,’ Jonita Gandhi on ‘Heaven,’ Arijit Singh on ‘Sapphire,’ and Hanumankind, Dhee, and Santhosh Narayanan on ‘Don’t Look Down.’
‘Symmetry’ has quickly become the standout, racking up millions of views as its black-and-white visual cuts between Ed and Karan trading verses in English and Punjabi. It’s the most Pop-polished moment on the EP, yet still carries Aujla’s unmistakable Punjabi swagger.
On the press run, Ed praised Aujla, saying, “Karan is culture, and I love the movement he’s making with Ikky right now. It’s been so cool watching what he’s built and becoming a part of that world.” He added, “This feels like the start of our collaborative journey, and I’m excited for what comes next.”
