Singapore is a tiny island nation, a city-state, that is often referred to as the little red dot, due to its demure size of 730 square kilometers. Within that compact area, though, there is a lot of talent bubbling out. SHIGGA SHAY 西阁, one of the dot’s best, is back with his latest track ‘PENG,’ right in time for the summer.
The uptempo beat for ‘PENG,’ produced by superjdoug, floats somewhere between House and Jersey with some Asian flavors cooked right in. SHIGGA is always nice on the mic, but this time he goes hard with the Singlish patois discussing things like highways, drink orders, and running up the downloads.
The video is shot in hanging mic style in the back of a Swee Choon shop. SHIGGA is sipping his iced tea and casually dropping knowledge about local slang. He said in a press release, “With ‘PENG,’ I wanted to put Singlish front and center from the way we speak to the everyday sounds of life in Singapore. It’s more than just slang or accent, it’s our culture. My goal was to make a track that feels familiar to us but also introduces people around the world to how we really talk and live.”
