Just a few weeks ago, LiFTED staff was having a meeting to discuss the upcoming LiFTED 50 ranking of MCs in the Asian Hip Hop game. When Rich Brian’s name was brought up, it was almost like he had disappeared off the map over the past year. But as Lil Wayne says, “Real Gs move in silence,’ and on cue, he dropped a new single on 88rising’s YouTube, ‘WHERE IS MY HEAD?’ as well as a May 23 release date for his third album.

‘WHERE IS MY HEAD?’ starts as a spoken word piece about birds that gently morphs into a song. His lyrics are sharp and by the time the beat drops, the song is basically over. At only a minute and 23 seconds, it feels like a snippet, similar to the way Kendrick Lamar dropped GNX, but it sounds like his head is in the clouds. The video moves at a rapid-fire pace, but also feels like a preview to something much bigger.

Rich Brian has come a long way since his ‘Dat $tick’ days, and it’s great to see that he’s back with new music and a new energy to share.
