B-girl Raygun announced as number 1 female breaker by World Dance Sport Association
This is a mockery of a mockery of a mockery
Australian B-girl Raygun, who became the most well-known breakdancer in the world after the Olympics for terrible reasons, was recently announced as the number one female breakdancer in the world according to World Dance Sport Association [WDSA]. The WDSA has come under as much scrutiny for this ranking as Raygun did for her often-mocked performance in Paris.
To address concerns and provide clarity, the WDSA said each athlete was assessed based on their top four performances in the last 12 months. They also said that this excludes any events from the end of 2023 to the qualifiers for Olympic events or the Olympics which are the biggest ones in the world. This created a set of unique circumstances where some athletes had been ranked based on a single event.
In kangaroo hops Raygun, She won her battle right before the end of 2023 and now she is the top-ranked female breaker in the world even though she didn’t win a single point in the Olympics and made a mockery of herself and all the people who love breaking. Now the WDSA is making a mockery of breaking as a whole.
In a rant, Crazy Legs from the Rock Steady crew let Raygun have it:
Luckily, breakers were only competing in WDSA events to accumulate points to qualify for the Olympics and now no one has any incentive or reason to participate in any WDSA breaking event after the Summer Games.
