Pokémon x Van Gogh is the collab we never knew we needed

Sunflowers turns into the character Sunflora

When people think of the Pokémon universe, the first thing that comes to mind is…Vincent Van Gogh? In a recently released video by the Pokémon YouTube channel, the Japanese media franchise is doing a collab with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam starting on September 28.

In the video, Pokémon and Eevee are sauntering through a field of sunflowers set in what looks like a 19th-century Dutch background. Soon, the two characters look up and see the sky and watch it morph into Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous impressionist painting, The Starry Night. When the camera pans back down, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers are then transmogrified into many versions of the character Sunflora, Pokémon’s plant friend. The video ends with a quick shot of Sunflora in a frame painted like the Impressionist icon’s works.

While there is little other news other than the exhibition starts on September 28, the combination of Pokémon and Van Gogh is so off the wall that it has created a media frenzy trying to guess which characters will be included in this multimedia experience.
