Hip Hop in India came from the gully and has featured gully boys, but times are changing. Param’s ‘That Girl’ shows there is room for gully girls.

Independent and full of Punjabi pride, Param’s first track is a viral sensation with nearly five million views in the first 10 days. From Duneke village in Punjab’s Moga district, Param sounds like nothing that is out now. She’s got a flow that is unfiltered, raw, and full of life.

Most importantly, she’s got the gully. In the video for ‘That Girl,’ Param raps from street corners and cyphers. The kids are mad for her, the hipsters are enjoying her vibe, and it seems that wherever she goes people put their hands in the air. ‘That Girl’ is Param’s first move in Punjabi Hip Hip, and it’s a big one.
