FLA’s ‘Mongol Trap’ was released about three weeks ago and it’s got summertime vibes all over it. With a throaty sample running through the beat as well as choppy-style lyrics by FLA, the song is smooth and rough at the same time.
What has taken hold across Mongolia is the ‘Mongol Trap’ dance that goes with the song. In the video, FLA is standing stoic-like with his arms folded and he moves side to side while he’s got an instrumentalist on one side and a traditional Mongolian dancer on the other. In other parts of the video, his partner goes a bit wild doing a dance like he’s hitting a speed bag in boxing.
Unlike hard to learn dances on cheesy K-pop tracks, the ‘Mongol Trap’ dance is dope because one person can be the cool one while the other goes crazy. On FLA’s Instagram page, he taps in with a lot of people doing the dance, from grandmas in front of yurts to superstars like GinJin and Mrs M. It’s early in the season, but ‘Mongol Trap’ has all the hallmarks of a song of the summer.
