MasiaOne channels her inner enchantress with Kiyan Foroughi & Rachelle Ruby on ‘Beautiful Distraction’
Synth Wave collides with Hip Hop and R&B on the concept album inner light. OUTER SPACE
Multi-cultural producer and sonic storyteller Kiyan Foroughi had a bold vision: a futuristic concept album set in alien worlds, where emotion, temptation, and identity collide. Titled inner light. OUTER SPace, the project unfolds like a sci-fi film, but one crucial role was still missing.
He needed an enchantress.
That’s when Foroughi discovered the Far East Empress herself, MasiaOne, and instantly knew she was the one.
“I was in Canada when the producer called me and started explaining the concept,” MasiaOne said. “He was talking about how nobody really makes concept albums anymore, especially with Spotify pushing everything toward singles. I loved that idea, so I said yes.”
The result is ‘Beautiful Distraction,’ a genre-blending moment where synthwave textures melt into Hip Hop, R&B, and touches of spoken word. MasiaOne steps into character effortlessly, transforming from MC to otherworldly siren.
“It was fun switching from the Far East Empress to the enchantress,” she explained. “I still wanted to give her some sass, though.”
Adding another layer to the track is Singaporean vocalist Rachelle Ruby, whose airy, ethereal vocals float through the record like a voice from another dimension guiding and gently pulling the enchantress toward surrender.
Set for release at the end of February, inner light. OUTER SPace is a project made for late-night headphone sessions. Fans of J Dilla, KAYTRANADA, and Nujabes will feel right at home with its cosmic grooves.
