Hamilton makes its Asian premiere in September in Manila

Lin-Manuel Miranda announced the great news

The revolution is coming to Manila in September.

Lin-Manuel Miranda went on Facebook and Instagram on March 28 to announce that his Tony, Oscar, and Oliver, and Pulitzer Prize-Award-winning musical Hamilton will be heading to Manila in September. He encourages fans of the musical to sign up for the waitlist as ticket demand will be extremely high for Hamilton’s first-ever show in Asia.

Hamilton is the story of “America then, told by America now.” What this means is that instead of stodgy old white dudes in puffy wigs and bad outfits from the 1700s, the cast has been multicultural, and all the songs are sung or rapped, which wasn’t invented until just 50 years ago.

Hamilton stunned the world when it premiered off-Broadway in 2015, got universal acclaim when it made it to Broadway later in 2015, and broke all the records when it got 16 Tony nominations, and it won 11, including Best Play. Oscars, and Olivers, and a Pulitzer Prize was next. Since 2017, Hamilton has been touring around the globe, focusing on North America and Europe, but now, 2023 is the first time the musical will make it to Asia.
