Gloc-9 goes back to his roots on ‘Kamusta Ka Na’
The legendary MC wants to inspire a new generation of MCs
Twenty-five years into his career, Filipino rapper Gloc-9 is a legend of the game. A well-respected elder statesman in the Philippines’ Hip Hop scene, affectionately known as Paboritong Makata [translates to “favorite poet” from Tagalog] – he has nothing left to prove. So on his latest single ‘Kamusta Ka Na’, he reflects on his humble beginnings and how he’s achieved his dreams of becoming one of the biggest rappers in the country.
Rapping fully in Tagalog, ‘Kamusta Ka Na’ is a track made for the fans. Recounting his time as a dreaming lad from the municipality of Binangonan in Rizal, Gloc-9 looks up at the starry skies – taking solace in the fact that his decision to take up music has been a success. Despite the many rejections by the industry, peers, and even family, his unwavering belief through each trial constantly made him one step closer to making his dream become a reality.
In a press release, Gloc-9 admitted that age was finally catching up to him. Yet this also motivated him to put out ‘Kamusta Ka Na’ – to become a beacon for the new wave of Filipino rappers. He hopes that the track could stoke the fire inside them like he had when he was just starting out.
