Hip Hop is a demanding lifestyle, which is why so many rappers have been dying young over the past few years. Gangsta Boo, formerly part of Three 6 Mafia, died on Sunday, January 1. A suspected overdose has been revealed as the cause.

Gangsta Boo, real name Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, had been with her brother at a concert in Memphis, Tennessee on New Year’s Eve. There, she started to OD and had to be taken to a hospital. She was pronounced dead at 4 PM Sunday afternoon. Gossip publication TMZ has noted that fentanyl-laced substances were found on her.

In the mid-1990s, Gangsta Boo started performing with the highly-influential group Three 6 Mafia. She quit the group in 2003 to go solo and had features with everyone from Outkast to Ludacris to Lil Jon to Foxy Brown to Run the Jewels. Just a month ago, she appeared on Latto’s song, ‘FTCU’ with GloRilla. When things got a little heated at the Verzuz between Bone Thugs-in-Harmony and Three 6 Mafia, Boo shouted “You a hater, Bizzy Bone” after the Cleveland rapper threw a bottle across the stage.

Tributes poured in for the MC who helped make it OK for southern rappers to be hardcore.
