BRYN turns love into a bloodsport on ‘Boyfriend Material’

Hyper Pop candy shell, razor blade center

South Korea’s BRYN has been diving deep into dance grooves in recent years, and her latest single, ‘Boyfriend Material,’ pushes that obsession into overdrive. It’s a Hyper Pop sugar rush that turns sinister fast with a bright, addictive hook riding a manic beat highlighted by lightning-speed drums.

In the video, BRYN cycles through a kaleidoscope of Japanese-inspired looks—Harajuku sweetness, Kawaii Punk edge—all filtered through her own off-kilter style. As the track builds, the glossy Pop veneer peels away, revealing her full “If I can’t have you, no one can” mode. By the final act, the perfect boyfriend is not only dead, he's been artfully chopped to pieces, stuck in a suitcase and more. Poor guy.

Dark, catchy, and impossible to pin down, ‘Boyfriend Material’ feels like it could slide straight into Japan’s charts and stay there.
