One or Eight revs their engines on their remix of ‘Tokyo Drift’

20 years later the song from the Teriyaki Boyz & The Neptunes still bangs

The other week, while walking down a strip of bars, ‘Tokyo Drift’ was playing at three places in a row at the same time. While they were all different remixes, that says a lot about the longevity of the Teriyaki Boyz’s song from the Fast & Furious movie of the same name from 2006.

Instead of just rehashing an older fad, ‘Tokyo Drift’ has never really left club culture. 88rising did a ‘Tokyo Drift Freestyle’ during COVID-19 with Rich Brian, JP The Wavy, Awich, Higher Brothers, and more, Lil Yachty samples the song on his ‘T.D.,’ which features A$AP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator, and Tierra Whack. Recently, with the explosion of Baile Funk in nightclubs around the globe, the beat of ‘Tokyo Drift’ feels like it fits in 2026 instead of 2006.

Japanese boy band One or Eight revs their own engines over the Neptunes beat on ‘Tokyo Drift,’ their first song on their debut album, GATHER. With eight rappers/singers/dancers, One or Eight was inspired by the Japanese idiom ippuku ka yoka meaning all or nothing. While everyone knows what to expect from the beat, it’s good to see what a modern group does to a song that turns 20 years old this year.
