Jessi shows why she’s the Queen Unni on ‘Girls Like Me’

In Rap slang, the term “Unc” is often thrown around for males that are above the age of 29 and still listening to and behaving in a Hip Hop way. Most of the time, it’s a lighthearted jab at someone’s age while also showing a token of respect.

In Korean, the term “Unni [ 언니]” is used by females to address an older female friend or an idol. It is thought of as a term of endearment or a sign of affection or admiration. On Jessi’s latest single, ‘Girls Like Me,’ from her mini-album, P.M.S., she says she’s the “unni unni unni” and reclaims that word to describe herself in glowing terms.

P.M.S. stands for Pretty Mood Swings, and it shows that Jessi can change to whatever she wants to be in an instant. From the previously released ‘Newsflash’ to the female empowerment anthem over a funky beat ‘Girls Like Me,’ Jessi is back with a vengeance and everyone better get used to calling her the Queen Unni.
