Desi Hip Hop meets Afrobeats in Badshah & Davido’s celebrations of cultures on ‘Wallah Wallah’
The innovative track has major cross-cultural appeal
With Indian Hip Hop and Afrobeats skyrocketing up the charts over the past few years, it only makes sense that two of the biggest artists in each genre get together for a cross-cultural collab. Davido is one of Afrobeats’ Big Three [with Wizkid and Burna Boy], and Badshah is steadily becoming a global presence in music and style with a sold-out North American tour and appearances at New York and Paris’ Fashion Weeks. ‘Wallah Wallah’ captures both stars' unique qualities and pushes the boundaries of what Hip Hop and Afrobeats can do together.
“Wallah” means “I swear to God” in English and wallah ‘Wallah Wallah’ has all the makings of a jam. Davido is one of the smoothest artists out in the world and each time he sings and raps, it sounds perfect. Add Badshah’s Desi flavor into the mix and ‘Wallah Wallah’ hits it out of the park. The video, filmed in Atlanta, shows a mansion party everyone wishes they had attended.
“‘Wallah Wallah’ is a sound born out of India but meant for the world,” said Badshah. “Davido and I wanted to make something true to our roots. This isn’t just a collaboration. It’s a celebration of two cultures moving forward together.”
