Golden Kamuy has been a cultural force in Japan for over a decade. The manga launched in 2014, ran for 31 volumes, and wrapped in 2022 before being adapted into a hit anime series now entering its fifth and final season. To mark the end of the epic, Awich has teamed up with genre-bending band Ali for ‘Golden Horizon,’ the powerful opening theme to a story rooted in legacy, survival, and identity.

Directed by Hideto Hotta, the cinematic video unfolds across the frozen landscapes of Hokkaido. The visuals are massive in scale — from Awich walking blinged-out dobermanns to hoisting a golden boulder in a Sisyphus-like moment of endurance. Fire, rain, ice, and sunflowers collide as both artists move through scenes charged with emotion, struggle, and rebirth.

For Awich, the connection runs deeper than aesthetics. She has spoken about the parallels between the Ainu people and her native Okinawan culture as both communities are grounded in the land, shaped by oppression, and united through the preservation of heritage.

“The cycle of life, prayers, betrayal, bonds, and determination depicted in Golden Kamuy deeply resonates with me,” Awich said. “That spiritual resonance is what inspired ‘Golden Horizon.’”
