Takashi Murakami is a Japanese contemporary artist who’s acclaimed for his zany approach. The renowned artist describes his art style as Superflat, which although has no definite characterization, it’s heavily inspired by anime and manga. Superflat lives at the intersection of high and low art.

Murakami is also known to collaborate with artists in the music world, like heavyweights Billie Eilish, Drake, and Pharrel Williams. In November, Takashi released a capsule collection with American rapper Post Malone. Murakami revealed via an Instagram post that Posty’s music got him through rough periods that came with the pandemic.

“I managed to get through the tough period during the pandemic thanks to his music, so I am truly grateful to him.” The duo met at the rapper’s concert in Los Angeles, and Murakami did not hold back with compliments for Posty. “Every song he sang at the concert was from a hit chart! He produces an incredible amount of work!! Truly a genius.”

The capsule collection from the duo is a release of hoodies, T-shirts, caps, beer mugs, as well as coasters. It was first made available for purchase at a pop-up in Los Angeles, and then online via NTWRK’s shopping app. Each product is stamped with the duo’s names and logos. Once the merch sells out, the limited-edition collection is gone for good.
