Spaceport Carnival [太空港] postpones festival due to earthquakes in Taiwan

It’s the April Fool’s Day joke that keeps going wrong

Spaceport Carnival [太空港] had a good reputation before this year when they put on a decent festival in 2023 with K-hop headliners CL, Coogie, Justhis, Gemini, and Sik-k. Their social media has always been on point with spacy graphics and a tightly-run Instagram.

Something happened when they thought it would be funny to copy a HipHopPlaya Festival festival post on April Fool’s Day and tell their ‘travelers’ that Kanye and Ty Dolla Sign would be making an appearance in Taiwan. The problem was that HipHopPlaya had April 1 hashtags and in the graphics, whereas Spaceport tricked a lot of Taiwanese fans into believing that they had huge headliners and sold a lot of tickets from their joke.

Since then, Taiwan had a bad earthquake, registering 7.2-magnitude, which knocked down a few buildings, and there have been tons of aftershocks since. On May 17, the founder of Spaceport said she tried to get earthquake insurance and was unable to so they were going to postpone the festival until a later date, three to six months after the aftershocks are supposed to stop. While this is understandable, most Hip Hop tours or concerts that don’t happen postpone or cancel because of low ticket sales. It’s not unreasonable to think that the same problem happened here.
