Me, myself & PaRappa the Rapper: De La Soul collabs with PlayStation rapper
Japanese streetwear brand WIND AND SEA is making it happen
Nearly 30 years ago, the video game PaRappa the Rapper debuted on PlayStation. There were six stages to the game, and players needed to rap with the characters to level up. While the graphics look a bit dated in 2025, in 1996, the 2D animation was cutting edge. Critics hailed the gameplay of the rapping dog, and PaRappa the Rappa was a hit.
In the late-80s, De La Soul entered the New York Hip Hop scene and was a beacon of light for kids who didn’t necessarily fit into what Hip Hop was at the time, but still loved Rap. Over the years, the group has become legendary for its classic albums, immaculate wordplay, and for making people dance to the beat of a different drum.
PaRappa and De La are now doing a collab straight from every Gen Xer’s dreams. Japanese streetwear brand WIND AND SEA is taking De La’s Daisy Age graphics and designs and dropping PaRappa right into them. While it’s an unexpected pairing, De La Soul and PaRappa the Rapper make a lot of sense in many ways.
