NCT’s MARK invites us to witness his ‘Golden Hour’

Has MARK finally learned to cook an egg after being roasted online?

Back in 2018, British chef Gordon Ramsey was sent an image of MARK attempting to fry an egg by a fan and was jokingly asked what he thought of the cooking. Godon responded in typical Ramsey fashion by saying, “Get back on Tinder!

Not one to take an insult lying down, this fun interaction serves as the inspiration behind MARK’s latest solo single ‘Golden Hour,’ released under SM STATION’s project NCT LAB. Cheekily referencing it in both the lyrics and music video, Korean boy band NCT’s resident rapper shows that he has the sense of humor to back the versatility in his music. “I don’t know how to make eggs/But that I do not stress/‘Cause I’ve never been hungry,” he raps.

‘Golden Hour’ continues in the rock-influenced production heard on his previous single ‘Child,’ Similar to NCT’s penchant for experimental music, MARK brings along that sense of adventurousness. There is unpredictability in his performance – not knowing whether you’d hear him rapping or singing - as MARK switches up at the drop of a hat.

The music video, on the other hand, is a calculated affair as MARK weaves in as many egg references as he can manage. From the video’s use of the color yellow to being set in a literal diner to being chased by a giant pixelated egg, it’s a hilarious visual that adds to the track’s playfulness.
