Mimifly lifts herself & the culture on ‘ANGKAT’

She smiles, but it’s prickly

The globalization of Hip Hop has affected every corner of the globe. The mantra of making something from nothing shines brightly as Malaysia’s Mimifly samples local dangdut singer Sheeda’s ‘Angkat Kaki’ for her latest offering ‘ANGKAT.’

Mimifly keeps it local with the music and the video. She is filmed in front of a traditional Malay house, which includes many Malay outfits and dances. She is being lauded in the press for also adding sign language into her video while she performs the choreography.

All of these are amazing for the culture, but is the song ‘ANGKAT’ any good?

‘ANGKAT’ translates to lift, and that’s just what Mimi does on the track. She raps like there is no tomorrow in her verses on ‘ANGKAT’ proving that she’s a fierce MC on a mission to prove she belongs in the Rap game at 38. As one of her best lines states, “I don’t care/Smile but it’s prickly.”
