Speed rhyming, or chopping, has been around since people started rapping. Every few years, this warp-speed Hip Hop gets a rush of popularity as someone comes up with a new record to break. Recently, Devil The Rhymer set a new record at India’s Book of Records with ‘Psykalone,’ where he raps 478 words in one minute.

At LiFTED, we did some digging to try and find some other Asian speed rhymers, as well as reflect on the OGs in the scene.

DEVIL THE RHYMER ‘PSYKALONE’

While releasing his five-track EP with the same name, DEVIL THE RHYMER is now the chopper rap champ of India. DEVIL comes with tongue-in-cheek rhymes and a breakneck delivery pace.

OUTSIDER ‘외톨이’

Outsider was an underground rapper with the skills to pay the bills in the early 2000s. He impressed Korean Hip Hop legend MC Sniper with his fast rhyming and was signed to a deal in 2007. Things went sour after a few years, but Outsider straddled the line between idol rapper and speed rapper with songs like ‘외톨이.’

TYMEE ‘Cinderella’

We can’t let the guys have all the fun! Tymee represents the ladies with her claim to fame as Korea’s fastest woman rapper. Check out her hasty raps in ‘Cinderella,’ a song that sounds nearly identical to ‘Problem’ by Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea.

TWISTA ‘Slow Jamz’

Twista was named the world’s fastest rapper by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1993 and built his whole career around it. With ‘Slow Jamz,’ he jumped on fellow Chicago native Kanye West’s song with crooner Jamie Foxx and sped it up for the ladies one time.

BUSTA RHYMES ‘Look At Me Now’

Supposedly Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are on this track but NOBODY remembers them for it. Instead, they only know how Busta took this verse and ripped it so hard that everybody’s jaw hits the ground as soon as they hear it. Then they press repeat.

EMINEM ‘Godzilla’

Marshall Mathers has always been lyrical, but he needed to remind the world who he was in ‘Godzilla,’ a track from his 2020 offering Music to Get Murdered By. In the final verse, he raps a blistering 10.65 syllables per second, which truly makes him a rap god.
