Luci Gang tightens her grip on 'HEADLOCK'

The independent Korean rapper's deep cut keeps things brief & blunt

Luci Gang is a powerhouse on 'HEADLOCK,' the latest cut from her third album, Rolling Stone. The South Korean rapper, born Lee Eun-seon, has spent the past several years building an independent catalog outside the traditional label system with a run that started in 2020 with her debut EP, 'Luci vs Gang.'

Produced by Lucky Bando, Luci’s fellow member in the NEWTOWN BANGERS crew, 'HEADLOCK' doesn't waste time making its point. The track runs under two minutes, and is blunt and built for the dancefloors. That crew's DIY approach to Rap sees Luci Gang venturing into House influences and gives the track a dance-centric vibe as it complements her rapping.

The song is a single from Rolling Stone, an album that pulls in a surprisingly wide guest list for an independent release. Veteran rapper Verbal Jint appears on 'Too Many Things,' alongside features from Jeffrey White, BLASÉ, and HYOI, plus a Hyelyn Joo-assisted remix of her earlier single 'raincoat.'

Luci Gang came up through the rap competition show RAP:PUBLIC and left Hongik University to pursue music full-time. 'Rolling Stone' marks one of her widest-reaching releases yet, without dulling the rougher edges that have defined her sound since day one.
