Loco’s ‘Matcha High’ is a psychedelic trap banger built for the heatwave
Life is better with light green everything
Just in time for the summer, South Korean rapper Loco gets help from TAICHU and Young Coco on ‘Matcha High,’ a heady, psychedelic Trap single that’s tailor-made for neon-lit evenings. The track serves as the lead single for his upcoming third studio album SCRAPS, due this July.
Built on shimmering xylophone tones and a chest-rattling 808 bass, ‘Matcha High’ flows like a party that has no end in sight. The production, handled by Japanese producer Koshy and Korean beatmaker vangdale, is lush and hypnotic. The beat mirrors the song’s theme–a preference for the steady, sustained energy of matcha over the quick jolt of coffee.
Loco delivers the lyrics like a cool and collected breeze. It’s the international features that give ‘Matcha High’ its woozy charm. Argentine rapper TAICHU floats through the track with a sleepy, melodic cadence, while Japan’s Young Coco drops in with a silky verse that lingers long after it ends. Together, the trio crafts a global hit that transcends language barriers and makes people want to get to their local drink store.
