Released in 1968, Thillana Mohanambal became a landmark of Tamil cinema. The romantic musical follows a nadaswaram player and a Bharatanatyam dancer who fall for each other but struggle to confess their feelings. A commercial and critical success, the film won multiple awards and has since become a cult classic.

More than half a century later, Thillana Mohanambal serves as inspiration for Killa K and Paal Dabba’s incredible ‘Adada,’ released through Def Jam India. With Paal Dabba also behind the camera as director, the video transforms the traditional atmosphere of a kacheri into a modern-day Rap arena.

Killa K and Paal Dabba face off from opposite sides of the room, each backed by their own crowd, turning the performance into a playful battle between two MCs. The setup feels rooted in tradition, but the attitude, rhymes, and energy are unmistakably Hip Hop.

‘Adada’ brings together culture, memory and nostalgia while Paal Dabba shoots it all from intimate, beautifully composed angles. As the track reaches its climax, Killa K and Paal Dabba get increasingly close to each other’s faces while their respective crowds start eyeing each other suspiciously. For a moment, it looks like everything might kick off.

Instead, the two rappers grab each other, revealing the competition for what it really is: two friends having fun pushing each other. Their crowds immediately follow suit, breaking into applause and turning the battle into a celebration.
