Kendrick Lamar tops Summer Sonic bill in Japan in August

He’ll play August 19 in Osaka & August 20 in Tokyo

Kendrick Lamar has been called the world’s best rapper, the face of the next generation, or even Pulitzer Kenny. On January 27, Kendrick was named the headliner of Summer Sonic, one of Japan’s biggest festivals, in Osaka on Saturday, August 19, and in Tokyo on Sunday, August 20. It’ll be his second time headlining a huge Japanese festival, as in 2018, he played the main stage at the Fuji Rock Festival in the middle of a typhoon.

Joining Kendrick as co-headliner is the band Blur, who are reuniting for the 25th anniversary of their band. Other notable acts include Liam Gallagher, Fall Out Boy, Evanascence, Thundercat, Lany, Lauv, Pale Waves, and more.

In 2022, Kendrick took his album, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers out on tour around America and Europe. He played 84 shows and many that attended said it was one of the most profound works of art via a concert they had ever seen. With Kendrick only releasing music sporadically, it is doubtful that he’ll put out something new by the summer, but people at Summer Sonic should be prepared to be amazed by the live show.
