KAWS:HOLIDAY THAILAND offers a moment of tranquility in Bangkok

COMPANION will be shown from May 13 to May 25

Anyone who has been to Bangkok over the last 10 years knows that it has been transformed into something special. Before, it used to be a stepping stone to get to tropical islands as fast as possible. Now, it’s one of the best cities in Asia for everything from music to food to culture to art.

KAWS knows this and on his 13th stop on the never-ending global tour, COMPANION will be shown from May 13 to May 25 at Sanam Luang, next to the Grand Palace. The site is known as Thung Phra Meru, translated into the Royal Cremation Grounds. COMPANION will be seated on a globe with the moon in its hand and a smaller COMPANION resting on its lap.

Since becoming such an amazing city, Bangkok is full of hustle and bustle. In the press release, KAWS is hoping his piece will offer some relaxation in the madness. “Within this storied landscape, KAWS:HOLIDAY THAILAND offers more than an art installation. It is an invitation to slow down, immerse in the surroundings, and experience a moment of tranquillity.”
